Lower quality gives smaller files but less detail. Converting does not always make a file smaller.

    Size

Converted images normally don’t include photo details such as camera model, date and GPS location. Tick this to keep them (JPG photos to JPG only). Photos are always turned the right way up.

How to convert image formats online

    1. Tap Select images, or drag your pictures onto the box. You can choose many at once.
    2. Pick the format you need under Convert to.
    3. Adjust quality, size or background colour if you like, then tap Convert.
    4. Check the result with Compare, then download each image, or all of them together as a ZIP file.

The converter reads what each file really is, so a photo saved with the wrong extension is still converted correctly, and every new file is checked before it is offered for download.

JPG vs PNG vs WebP vs AVIF: which format should you use?

JPG is the universal format for photos. It keeps files small by discarding detail you rarely notice, but it cannot be transparent. PNG keeps every pixel exactly and supports transparency, which makes it ideal for logos, screenshots and graphics with text, though photos saved as PNG become large. WebP does both jobs: it can be lossy or lossless, supports transparency, and is usually smaller than JPG or PNG, so it is a great choice for websites. AVIF is newer and often smaller still; this tool can read AVIF images and convert them to other formats.

Older formats have their place too. GIF is limited to 256 colours but still works everywhere for simple graphics and short animations. BMP stores pixels without compression for older software, and TIFF is common in printing and archiving because it is lossless.

How to convert HEIC to JPG

iPhones save photos as HEIC to use less space, but many websites and Windows computers cannot open them. Open this page in Safari on your iPhone, iPad or Mac, select your HEIC photos, choose JPG and tap Convert. Other browsers cannot read HEIC files, so the tool explains this instead of failing silently. Tip: when you pick photos from an iPhone's library on a website, iOS often hands over a JPG copy automatically.

How to convert PNG to JPG

Choose your PNG files and select JPG. If a PNG has a transparent background, pick the colour that should fill it (white by default). JPG files of photos are usually far smaller than PNGs. For logos and text, keep PNG or use WebP for the sharpest result.

How to convert WebP to PNG

Some apps still cannot open WebP images saved from websites. Select the WebP files, choose PNG and convert. Transparency is kept, and the PNG opens in practically any program. Animated WebP files are converted using their first frame, and the tool asks you to confirm that first.

    How to batch convert images

Select as many images as you like, choose one output format for all of them, and tap Convert. Images are processed one at a time so phones do not run out of memory, with progress shown for each file. When they are done, download them one by one or tap Download all to get a single ZIP file.

    Frequently asked questions

Is this image converter really free?

Yes. There is no signup, no watermark, no limit on the number of images and nothing to pay.

    Are my images uploaded anywhere?

No. Your images are converted inside your own browser. They are never sent to this website or to any conversion service, and nothing is stored.

Does converting change the size of my image?

Not unless you choose a new size. Width and height stay the same by default. The file size will change, though, and it can go up or down depending on the formats. PNG, BMP and TIFF files of photos are often much larger than the JPG they came from.

Why is AVIF shown but switched off?

AVIF images can be opened and converted to other formats, but web browsers cannot create AVIF files yet. The option switches on automatically in browsers that can.

    Will transparent backgrounds be kept?

Yes, when the new format supports transparency: PNG, WebP, TIFF and BMP keep it, and GIF keeps it with hard edges. JPG cannot be transparent, so you choose the colour for those areas. It is white unless you pick another colour, and never black by accident.

    What happens to animated GIFs?

You choose. Converting an animated GIF to GIF can keep the animation. For other formats the tool asks you to confirm that only the first frame will be converted, so an animation never disappears without warning.

Are photo details and orientation kept?

Photos are always turned the right way up. Photo details (EXIF), such as camera model, date and location, are removed by default for privacy. You can keep them when converting JPG photos to JPG.

Why does a file say it is not supported?

The tool checks what each file really is, not just its name. Files that are not images, damaged images, TIFFs that use JPEG compression inside, and HEIC photos in browsers other than Safari cannot be converted, and the tool tells you why.

Yes. You can convert images without paying a subscription, registering an account, or adding watermarks.

Can I convert PNG images to JPG?

Can I convert multiple images at once?

Sometimes. File size depends on the selected format, compression settings, dimensions, and original image. Some conversions may produce larger files.
