Increase audio volume in seconds: make a quiet recording louder, turn a loud one down, even out the volume, or silence a part. It works with MP3, WAV, M4A and more, and a built-in limiter keeps the sound from distorting. It’s free, there’s no sign-up, and your file never leaves your device.

How to increase audio volume
- Tap Choose file and pick your audio file.
- Choose Louder or quieter and move the slider, or tap 125%, 150% or 200%. 100% is the original volume.
- Keep Prevent distortion switched on.
- Press Change volume, listen to the result, then download it.
Three ways to fix the volume
- Louder or quieter. Set the volume anywhere from silent to three times louder.
- Even out. Sets the whole file to a standard, comfortable loudness, similar to podcasts and streaming apps. The easiest fix for recordings that are too quiet.
- Mute a part. Drag across the waveform to silence a cough, a mistake or a word you don’t want, and keep the rest exactly as it was.
Make audio louder without distortion
When you simply turn audio up, the loudest moments can go past the maximum level and crackle. That’s called clipping. With Prevent distortion switched on, a limiter gently holds back only those peaks, so you can increase audio volume a lot while it still sounds clean. For most quiet recordings, Even out gives the best result with one tap.
How it works
This tool uses FFmpeg, the free, open-source engine behind many professional audio apps. Even out uses loudness normalization, which measures how loud the audio sounds to people rather than just its highest peak. Everything runs in your browser, on your own device.
Tips for fixing quiet audio
- Try Even out first. For most quiet voice recordings, phone recordings and old MP3s, Even out finds the right level in one tap.
- Raise in steps. If you use the slider, start at 150% and listen. Going straight to 300% can make background noise and hiss more noticeable.
- Keep Prevent distortion on. It stops the crackling sound that happens when the loudest parts are pushed past the maximum level.
- Turn down loud audio too. Set the slider below 100% to make a harsh or too-loud recording more comfortable to listen to.
- Silence mistakes instead of cutting them. Mute a part keeps the timing of the recording the same, which is useful when the audio has to stay in sync with a video.
Increasing audio volume can only make the existing sound louder. It can’t remove background noise that was recorded along with the voice, so the best results always come from a clean original recording.
You can increase audio volume for MP3, WAV, M4A, FLAC, OGG and the sound from videos, and save the result in the same format or a different one. Nothing is uploaded, so it works quickly even on a phone.

Increase audio volume FAQ
How much louder can I make my audio?
Up to 300% of the original volume. With Prevent distortion switched on, even big increases stay clean.
What’s the difference between Louder and Even out?
Louder changes the volume by the amount you choose. Even out works out the right amount for you and sets the whole file to a standard listening level.
Can I silence just one part?
Yes. Choose Mute a part, select the part on the waveform or type the times, and only that part becomes silent.
Is it free?
Yes. No account, no watermark and no limit on use.
Are my files uploaded?
No. Your audio is processed in your browser on your own device. Nothing is uploaded or stored.
Want to remove a noisy part instead? Use the MP3 cutter. To make the file smaller afterwards, try the MP3 compressor.
